Mary Jean Gore
Mary Jean Gore, age 86, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 9, 1933 in Franklin, GA to the late Noah and Eucal Gore of Lagrange, GA.
Jean grew up and remained in Lagrange for most of her life. She became involved in the care of others at an early age. She loved everyone and worked hard to help someone in need. This mentality inevitably led Jean into the nursing profession.
Jean started her nursing career right after graduating from high school in 1949. She first worked at the Worthy Nursing Home and then the City-County Hospital, now Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. After earning her L.P.N. certification, Jean worked at Clark-Holder Clinic, now Emory Clark-Holder Clinic, and became an integral part of the medical staff. Jean retired in 1995 after over 35 years of service to the community.
Jean enjoyed drawing and painting, reading, and spoiling all of her nieces, and nephews, as well as all of her grandnieces and nephews. She was a great animal lover too. Even though most of her life was devoted to the care of others, she still took time to treat herself, especially in the form of her beloved 1976 Chevy Corvette Stingray.
She is survived by her sister Nell Pollard, her nieces: Stephanie Urso and Kimberly Ayers, her nephew: Henry “Pete” Pollard Jr, and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Bobbie Dettmar and Verna “Bebe” Taylor; her nephew Richard “Ricky” Dettmar; her grandniece Samantha Malone.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 11am at Hilltop Cemetery, Lagrange, GA. The service is held by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home and will be performed by Rev. John Tomlin. While flowers are appreciated, please consider donating to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Rd, LaGrange, GA 30240, on behalf of Jean. The staff showed great care and concern for Jean’s and her family’s well-being.
